How long is the validity of an exhibition, 10 years or longer? 10 years ago, it was in the millennial 2000 that Chinese contemporary art reached its new start. In that autumn, three budding young artists, Yang Fudong, Yang Zhenzhong and Xu Zhen, launched their group exhibition in Shanghai, known as Useful Life 2000. The remarkable success of this exhibition brings them to the spotlight of the Chinese contemporary art, even the world stage.
Today, decade after the exhibition, they will “revalidate” it again, which is Useful Life 2010. In these years, three novas have evolved to the elite of Chinese contemporary art. Meanwhile, the contemporary art faces a different context in china from the former era. Now these three artists decide to make an extension of the useful life, and brand new works will be shown. All these works will indicate the maturity, the introspection and the track of their art, especially their firm attitude. ShanghART is looking forward to meet you in this autumn and see the beginning of the new useful life.
